Innovative, technical, product design and engineering

Simple components combined with tooled parts to create a furniture support that accommodates manufacturing tolerancess
  • We are passionate about resolving difficult technical challenges with rigour and diligence.
  • Problems are broken down into fundamental functions where we focus on the critical operation and sensitivities.
  • We then creatively rebuild systems to deliver desired robust performance
  • Particular expertise in airflow and separation systems and complex mechanisms

Taking ideas from concept, through prototyping and testing to production engineering detail

Progression of Concepts to Production

We offer the full range of the development spectrum, but our strength lies in technical development of products, which are inventive or complex. We develop prototypes to prove-out principles and continuously test at each stage, gradually adding more manufacturing detailing for appropriate materials and processes for manufacture.

Staged Approach

Clients may choose to utilise different areas of our expertise, often depending on their own capabilities

>   Insights, Research & Feedback

This information directs each design cycle. This comes from client specifications, insight work, auditing systems and designs, or results from previous iterations or products.

>   Design Iteration

The tools used in the design iteration usually depends on the maturity of the design.

  • We still favor sketching in early stages, as this enables rapid generation of ideas , and simplified functional diagrams from which we can make 2D proof of principle rigs.
  • 3D CAD is then used to bring these ideas into a more realistic embodiment of the design, with the use of rapid prototyping techniques to manufacture parts, albeit not necessarily in representative materials.
  • Additional detail in the design is informed by the testing and the introduction of geometry required for strength and manufacturing processes.
  • As the design progresses more detailed engineering controls come in to play (such as FMEA, tolerance analysis) and component details can be discussed and agreed with suppliers

>   Prototype and Build

However basic, having parts to hand, building them and experiencing the dynamic behavior, highlights possible user perceptions or unexpected use cases which feed back into the process.

>   Test and Observe

>   Analysis and Evaluation

To get as much as possible from each model we test wherever we can, with the aim of producing both subjective feedback and objective performance parameters

Throughout the process it is important to evaluate the design. It can be easy to turn-a-blind-eye to potential weaknesses or observations that could be a threat. This provides the motivations for the next iteration of development.
